Vinnie Paz of the seminal underground hip-hop group Jedi Mind Tricks just released his latest album God Sent Vengeance. This is the third and final installment to his “God” trilogy. The album features guest verses from legends like Cappadonna, ILL BILL, and Onyx. I had the pleasure of producing the album cut “Mao’s War on Sparrows“.
Vinnie Paz had reached out to me after doing a few tracks on Rim‘s album and asked if I had anything for him. After sending over a bunch of snippets, he picked the instrumental (then named “Red Solo Cups“) for what would become “Mao’s War on Sparrows“.
The track is influenced by the Jazz Fusion sounds of the late 70’s. It features a synth lead played on the Arp Odyssey (Korg reissue from a few years back – still debating if I want an OG), a deep bassline played on the Moog Sub37, and synth strings from the Arp Omni.
